Volleyball -- FLCC Falls to Genesee on Road, Three Sets to None
BATAVIA, NY. – Finger Lakes traveled to the land of Genesee CC yesterday where they took on the Lady Cougars in what was a 6:00 p.m. showdown.
Riding a 3-1 record in their previous four matches heading into Tuesday, the Lady Lakers were looking to change that three to a four. Facing a quality roster in GCC's, Finger Lakes (8-16, 4-1 MSAC) was unable to deliver a road victory in its quest for a fourth win in five matches. The Lady Cougars took a commanding victory into their own hands by sweeping the Lady Lakers, three sets to none. All three scores read like this – 23-25, 14-25, and 17-25.
Both teams delivered a game one showing that could have easily gone in the win column for either side – but it was GCC who would prevail – in the nail-biter. The Lady Cougars built a foundation full of momentum after taking the opener in the best-of-five series. They went on to take games two and three without ever trailing.
GCC boasted several excellent playmakers on their own hardwood yesterday evening. Their athleticism around the net showed why they pose as a legitimate contender in any game or match.
In the losing effort, the Lady Lakers were led by the play of sophomore outside hitter Jordan Smith. The Lyons, NY native produced 8 kills and 4 digs in the three games. Courtney Bradish, 7 kills, Conley Gayton, 15 assists, and Julianna Marcello, 5 digs, each contributed in the match for Finger Lakes.
With the win, the Lady Cougars improved to 11-18 on the season. They will now hit the road for their next match, which is slated for tomorrow when they take on Mercyhurst North East.
Finger Lakes will return to the court today where they will take on conference foes Broome CC on the road at 6:00 p.m.
