Volleyball – Lady Lakers Post 2-3 Record at OCC Tournament

SYRACUSE, NY. – The Lady Lakers competed in five matches at the Onondaga CC Tournament on Friday (10/5) and Saturday (10/6). On Friday, they took on Corning CC and Jefferson CC and on Saturday they paired up with Jamestown CC, Cayuga CC, and Onondaga CC.

In the opening day of the tournament, Finger Lakes (11-19, 5-1 MSAC) split its matches by falling to Corning – 2-1 before taking down Jefferson – 2-0. In day two of the event, the Lady Lakers went 1-2 in their three matches. In match one; they fell to Jamestown – 2-0. They then rebounded in their next contest, which was against Cayuga, by grabbing a 2-1 victory in three sets. In their final meeting of the weekend, Finger Lakes fell to the hosts of the tournament in Onondaga – 2-0. All five matches were a best-of-three series.

In a losing effort against Corning, the Lady Lakers were led by the play of Jordan Smith, Courtney Bradish, Conley Gayton, and Julianna Marcello. Smith recorded 7 kills and 5 digs while Bradish (5 kills), Gayton (14 assists and 6 digs), and Marcello (6 digs), each contributed in the match.

In the win over Jefferson, Smith (8 kills), Bradish (6 kills and 5 digs), Gayton (17 assists and 5 digs), and Marcello (7 digs), each turned in quality performances yet again. Joining the aforementioned players with productive matches of their own were teammates Brittany Havens (6 kills) and Danielle Joseph (3 aces and 4 digs).
 
In the pairing with Jamestown, Finger Lakes received 9 kills and 7 kills respectively out of Joseph and Smith. Gayton racked up 18 assists and 8 digs while Marcello added 11 digs in the Saturday matchup.
 
In match four of the tournament, which involved the Lady Lakers taking on Cayuga, FLCC was paced by Smith's 10 kills and 9 digs. Joseph chipped in with 7 kills in the win. Gayton registered 20 assists and 10 digs. Bradish landed 6 aces while Shannon Tozier (9 digs) and Marcello (7 digs) each played impactful matches for FLCC.
 
In the finale of the five matches played over the weekend, the Lady Lakers were headed by the play of Smith (8 kills and 3 aces) in a loss, which came against the hosts – Onondaga. Havens (5 kills), Gayton (15 assists and 7 digs), and Marcello (8 digs), each added solid matches for FLCC.
 
The Lady Lakers will play in their final string of regular season matches this Saturday (10/13) when they travel to Tompkins Cortland CC where they will partake in a series of three contests. In those matches, they will play against the likes of Broome CC (at 11:45 a.m.), Corning CC (1:15 p.m.), and Tompkins Cortland CC (4:45 p.m.).
