FLCC Announces Hiring of New Women’s Volleyball Coach in Matt Barr

CANANDAIGUA – Finger Lakes CC and its athletics department announces the hiring of a new head women's volleyball coach. Recently, the department inked Matt Barr – a resident of Clyde, NY – as the chosen commodity for running the women's volleyball program at the college. Unquestionably a talented coach – the new addition to Finger Lakes athletics staff brings a stellar coaching resume with him to the school.

Barr has been at the coaching front of the girls' varsity volleyball team in the Lyons Central School District for the past 11 seasons. As the girls' varsity coach – he has compiled a record of 231-21 – which is equivalent to a .916 winning percentage. To go along with his 231 wins – Barr has directed the team to a league record of 151-3 (.980 winning %) over those 11 seasons.

Along with his winning success in the Lyons Central School District – Barr has led the girls' varsity volleyball team to 10 Wayne County League Championship crowns. He has also accumulated 6 Section V Championship titles and has directed the girls' varsity team to 5 New York State Tournament appearances.

In addition to his records and titles in the Lyons Central School District – Barr has coached several scholar athletes all while being named Coach of the Year numerous times. Furthermore – he has served the sport of volleyball by acting as a coordinator and chairman for the Section V Girls' Volleyball Committee. For a span of 9 years and 10 years respectively – Barr was the Section V Class DDD Coordinator as well as the Wayne County League Chairman.

A graduate of St. John Fisher College and Rush-Henrietta High School – Barr – along with his coaching experience – was a quality athlete at the collegiate and high school levels. As an athlete at Fisher – he was a 4-year varsity pitcher for the baseball team and in addition was a member of the club volleyball squad for two years. Prior to his collegiate days, Barr played both baseball and volleyball while attending Rush-Henrietta.

On top of being a superb volleyball coach – Barr served as an outstanding boys' varsity baseball coach in the Lyons Central School District for 10 seasons. Additionally – he also coached the boys' modified basketball team for 6 seasons in the same school district.

Throughout his 10-year stint as a baseball coach – he led the boys' varsity team at Lyons to 8 Wayne County League Championship titles and was on the coaching and winning end of a Section V Championship team. Having coached in 215 total games as the boys' varsity skipper – Barr directed Lyons to a record of 165-50 (.767 winning %) during his time with the team. Similar to that of his time with the girls' varsity volleyball team – the talented coach – while at the helm of the boys' varsity baseball team at Lyons – coached several scholar athletes all while being on the collecting end of numerous Coach of the Year awards.

Barr – after enduring a noteworthy career as a coach and athlete at various levels – will now enter the college ranks for the first time as a coach. With his enthusiasm for the sport of volleyball ranking extremely high – the visionary coach brings not only a solid coaching resume with him to Finger Lakes – however – he also brings an unprecedented amount of passion for the sport with him – something he plans on using towards building upon the success of the young program. Barr strongly looks forward to the new challenge that lies ahead.

Along with his coaching abilities – Barr has a knack for knowing how to scout talent. He has a profound understanding of knowing what it takes to build a successful and sustainable program. After breathing in ample success as a varsity volleyball (and baseball) coach at the high school level – the Lady Lakers new hire comes to Finger Lakes with the vision of obtaining nothing but continued success as a coach at the next level.
