Lakers go 2-1 in POD Play

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Women’s Volleyball team hosted their own NJCAA Region III POD this past Saturday. The Lakers played Cayuga Community College, Jefferson Community College, and Onondaga Community College. They came 2-1 out of the POD.

Game 1 vs. Cayuga

The Lakers won 3-0 against Cayuga. They came out very strong in the first set. The Lakers won 25-10.

In the second set, FLCC was still ahead, but Cayuga was scoring more than in the last game. The majority of the points for Cayuga were from FLCC errors. The Lakers still won 25-13.

In the last set, Cayuga started to find some more steam. They ended up scoring more than the other two sets. The Lakers still came out victorious. They won 25-15.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Lindsay Howell with 12 kills, and one block, Alyssa Fox with 5 kills, and 13 digs, and Megan Gass with 16 digs.

Game 2 vs. Jefferson

The Lakers won 3-1 against Jefferson. The Lakers had a slower start to this game. Both the Lakers and the Cannoneers kept a close set. FLCC started to find their rhythm and they ended up winning 25-19.

In the second set, Jefferson started out ahead. The Lakers were working their way back, but then lost it after Jefferson gained another big lead. The Cannoneers won this set 25-14.

In the third set Jefferson started out with the lead again. FLCC found some determination and won the lead. Jefferson put in a good effort to regain their beginning lead but couldn’t quite get there. The Lakers won 25-22.

In the last set, FLCC started with the lead. A couple of out of bounds hits brought Jefferson into the lead after that. After a hard fight, the Lakers regained their lead and won the set, while also winning the game. They won 25-20.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Shannon Mowry with 7 kills, and 10 digs, Tiffany Dickerson with 4 kills, 3 digs, and 3 blocks, and Megan Gass with 51 digs.

Game 3 vs. Onondaga

The Lakers were defeated in their third and final game of the day by the Lazers 3-0. In the first set, the Lakers came in with a really rough start. They fell far behind, but came back with not enough steam and the Lazers took the first one. They won 25-22.

In the second set, the Lakers had a better start. They made it a close game coming back from behind, but couldn’t come back enough. The Lazers won again 25-21.

In the final set, FLCC had a good start. They kept the lead for most of the game. OCC came back with a big push and won the whole thing. The Lazers won 25-21.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Alyssa Fox with 7 kills, and 23 digs, Lindsay Howell with 7 kills, one dig, and one block, and Megan Gass with 48 digs.

The Lakers play next at home on Wednesday, September 20th. They will start at 6:00pm.
