JOHNSTOWN, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Women’s Volleyball team played at the Fulton-Montgomery Community College Region III POD on Saturday. There they played Herkimer College, Fulton-Montgomery Community College, and Mohawk Valley Community College. The Lakers went 2-1 on the weekend.
The momentum started out in Herkimer’s favor in the first set. Herkimer won 25-16. This seemed to fire up the Lakers. They tied up the sets at 1-1 winning the second 25-20. The Lakers started to get on a real roll after the second set win. They dominated Herkimer in the third match, winning 25-12. In the fourth and final match, Herkimer was not going to go down without a fight. They ended up forcing the game to finish at 26-24. The Lakers came out on top.
After their 3-1 win over Herkimer, the Lakers couldn’t quite find the same steam they had against Herkimer. The first set was slow and went in Fulton-Montgomery’s favor. The Lakers lost 25-13. The Laker’s still could not catch up to Fulton-Montgomery in the second set. They lost again this time 25-16. The third set was better for the Lakers. They scored more points than they did in the other two sets, but did not score enough. They lost the final set, 25-19.
Game leaders for the Lakers were Lindsay Howell with 5 kills, 2 digs, and 3 blocks, Alyssa Fox with 5 kills, 2 service aces, and 37 digs, and Megan Gass with 1 kill, 1 service ace, and 45 digs.
Mohawk Valley Game
The Lakers did not want to go home with a losing record on the weekend, and it showed in this game. Their first set was a close one. They had much more momentum than they did against Fulton-Montgomery. They ended up not having enough, and Mohawk Valley took the first one 25-22. The rest of the sets ended in FLCC’s favor. They won the second set, 25-16, the third set, 25-19, and the final set, 25-23.
Game leaders for the Lakers were Lindsay Howell with 10 kills, and 3 digs, Shannon Mowry with 4 kills, 1 service ace, and 30 digs, and Megan Gass with 1 kill, 2 service aces, and 70 digs.
The Lakers play next on Wednesday, October 4th at Tompkins Cortland Community College. They will start at 6:00pm.
