Women's Volleyball Win's Their Sophomore Night

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Women’s Volleyball team came out victorious over the SUNY Broome Community College Hornets Wednesday night 3-1. It was also the Laker’s Sophomore Night.

The Lakers honored their four sophomores, Jenna Relyea, Michelle Richardson, Shannon Mowry, and Lindsay Howell in a ceremony before the game started.

In the first set, you could tell the Lakers wanted to win for their sophomores. The set started pretty evenly. Alyssa Fox proved herself with kill after kill in this set. She helped the Lakers take the lead and eventually win the set. They won 25-22.

The second set started with a Hornet’s lead. FLCC stayed close behind, then tied it at 23. It was a tight set but the Lakers ended up losing on an out of bounds hit. The score was 23-25.

The third set started out again with a Hornet’s lead. They led mostly on FLCC errors. At 16 points, the Lakers tied the set and pulled ahead from there. They won on a Broome violation. The score was 25-14.

The final set started with a big Laker’s lead. They were absolutely dominating the court. The Lakers won the set, and the game on Megan Gasses kill. They won the set 25-12.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Fox with 15 kills, 26 digs, and 2 blocks, Howell with 12 kills, and 2 blocks, and Tiffany Dickerson with 5 kills, 3 digs, and 6 blocks.

The Lakers travel next to Fulton-Montgomery Community College for a Region III POD. There they will play Herkimer Community College, Mohawk Valley Community College, and Fulton-Montgomery Community College. Start times are still TBA.
