Lakers Fall to Union in Five-Set Thriller

Edison, NJ - The Lakers would put together a strong all-around team performance, highlighted by a balanced offensive attack and solid play on both sides of the ball. However, the Lakers would ultimately fall short, dropping a hard-fought match in the fifth set.

Leading the way was  Zach Sipos (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy), who had a huge match with 17 kills while adding 13 digs to anchor the Lakers offensively. Ethan Bond (Phelps, N.Y. / Midlakes) would also turn in a strong performance, finishing with 11 kills and 5 total blocks at the net.

Braden Whitcomb (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) was efficient in his opportunities, recording 6 kills while hitting an impressive .455, and Jackson Blaszow (Chittenango) added 8 kills to help round out the offense. Dominick Alverado (York, PA. / Northeastern) would chip in with 5 kills, continuing the balanced attack for the Lakers.

Running the offense was Cole Thomas (Fayetteville, N.Y. / Chittenango) who dished out 47 assists while also contributing 10 digs in a strong all-around performance. Defensively, Jack Donovan (Oswego, N.Y. / Oswego) led the way with 14 digs, helping stabilize the back row.

At the net, the Lakers were active defensively, with multiple players contributing blocks as they controlled play and maintained momentum throughout the match.

 

The Lakers will now await to see if they receive an at-large bid to the national tournament.
