A superb bat for the Lady Lakers in 2012 – Smyers – as a freshman last year – accrued FLCC’s second best batting average as she hit .397 from the plate. In addition to her hitting – which consisted of her tallying 25 hits in 63 at bats – the outfielder was a high on-base player in her first year with the team. On the season – she accumulated an OBP of .524 (first on the team) – which was 37th best in the nation. Seeing action in 33 games – Smyers drew 17 walks while scoring 17 runs last season. A hard worker and great leader on the field – it can be expected out of Smyers that she will follow up her freshman campaign with another productive year offensively in 2013. She has the heart and work ethic that fit that of a winner.
