Lakers Announce Next Head Coach of Softball

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – Finger Lakes Community College is proud to announce the hiring of Julianna Sherman as the next Head Coach of the Softball program.

Sherman brings a wealth of knowledge on and off the field, serving as a 4-year utility player at Niskayuna High School, before finishing out her high school career at Cambridge High School as team captain her Senior year.

Sherman took her talents to SUNY Cortland, serving as a student softball coach, before transferring to the local Keuka College Wolfpack. For the Wolfpack, Sherman took on the role of Assistant Coach, a role she held until this past Spring season.

In the Spring of 2019, Sherman made her head coaching debut at the high school level for Prattsburgh Central School and their Varsity softball team. Following that, Sherman took the helm for the combined Avoca/Prattsburgh Softball team in the Spring of 2020.

Now, Sherman gets to make her head coaching debut at the collegiate level for the Lakers, "I am incredibly humbled by, and thankful for this opportunity. I am stepping into the position knowing that I have big shoes to fill, and with the intent to honor them", Sherman stated.

Sherman has a vision for the future of Lakers Softball, "the mission is to win with character, and that's exactly what I will teach and strive for with each group of girls that joins our team. To say I am excited for this opportunity is an understatement", Sherman added.

"We are excited to have Julianna as our next head softball coach. She brings high energy, a great attitude and terrific knowledge of the game to FLCC softball", stated FLCC Athletic Director, Samantha Boccacino, "I am confident she will continue to move our program forward, building upon the great foundation established by our previous head coach, Jerry Hoover", she added.

Under Sherman, the Lakers look forward to a highly anticipated and successful 2022 Spring Softball season.
