Dominant Sweep Over Corning Propels Lakers to 10-2
CORNING, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College women's volleyball team continued their strong start to the season with a dominant 3-0 sweep over Corning Community College Tuesday evening. The Lakers improved their record to 10-2 overall and 2-0 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference (MSAC). The match marked the Lakers 7th-straight win over Corning, a streak that started on October 16th, 2021.
The Lakers showcased a balanced attack, with every player earning time on the court. The Lakers were led by Jackie Neureuter (Pembroke, N.Y./Pembroke) who registered 9 kills and hit .300 on the night. Sophomore Payton Stoddard (Bloomfield, N.Y./Bloomfield) shined in the matchup, adding 2 kills, 17 assists, and 4 aces.
Sophomore Michelina Williams (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) contributed 6 aces and 11 digs, while teammates Karynn Price (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) and Anna Kurtzhalts (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) combined for 10 kills, each hitting over .300. Freshman Vivien Libby (South Dayton, N.Y./Pine Valley) would add to the Lakers tally with 2 kills on a .400 hitting percentage. The Lakers' defense was the difference-maker, limiting Corning's chances as they finished with 37 digs to help seal the win.
The Lakers are back on the road this Thursday, September 19th as they head to Henrietta, N.Y. to take on the Monroe Community College Tribunes at 6 PM on Monagan Court.
