Lacrosse – Lakers Fall To #5 Nationally Ranked Genesee
CANANDAIGUA, NY. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lakers (2-3, 0-0 MSAC) played their first home game of the 2012 season today in front of a large crowd on what was a rather warm day for the month of March. The Lakers battled a tough opponent in #5 nationally ranked Genesee Community College (Cougars). The Cougars proved their ranking by downing Finger Lakes by a score of 23-8. Genesee displayed great quickness on offense and an immense amount of toughness on defense throughout the entire game.
In a losing effort, the Lakers played hard on both the offensive and defensive ends of the field, but couldn't seem to match Genesee's play. Finger Lakes took a few positives out of today's loss. They discovered another potential goal scoring threat in freshman midfielder Matt Fuller (Medina, NY). Fuller dumped in 4 goals on the afternoon, highlighting his early college playing career with his first breakout game. The Lakers also saw what freshman midfielder Albert Thompson (Medina, NY) can bring to the table. Thompson, like Fuller, also had his first breakout game of his collegiate playing career today. He finished the game with 2 goals and 4 assists.
Sophomore attackmen Steve Campaniello (Rochester, NY) and Joshua Taylor (Calgary, AB Canada) rounded out the goal scoring column for Finger Lakes this afternoon. Campaniello and Taylor each scored 1 goal apiece.
Freshmen midfielders Jack Timerson (Newark, NY) and Tom Loudon (Overland Park, KS) each added 1 assist apiece for the Lakers in the loss.
In goal, freshman John Perrucci (Myrtle Beach, SC) recorded 26 saves in 52 minutes worth of action for Finger Lakes. Freshman goalie Nate Gardner (Newark, NY) relieved Perrucci late in the game by registering 8 minutes of playing time in the net. Gardner finished the game with 2 saves.
Finger Lakes will remain at home for its next game. The Lakers will take on Jefferson Community College this Saturday (3/17) at 1:00 pm.
