Lacrosse - Lakers Fall In Overtime To Hudson Valley
TROY, NY. - The Finger Lakes Community College Lakers (4-4, 2-0 MSAC) fell to the Hudson Valley Community College Vikings today on the road in overtime by a score of 12-11. The Lakers established an 11-9 lead with less than one minute to play in the game, but failed to hold on as the Vikings made a late game surge to seize the victory.
Despite dropping a close game, Finger Lakes displayed a solid performance on the field today. Sophomore attackman Joshua Taylor (Calgary, AB Canada) paced the Lakers by scoring 5 goals. Taylor's 5-goal performance now gives him a team leading 22 goals on the season. He is currently ranked 4th in the nation in goals scored.
A pair of Finger Lakes attackmen, Cale Giese (freshman, Kamloops, BC Canada) and Steve Campaniello (sophomore, Rochester, NY) each poured in 4-point efforts this afternoon. Giese, who returned from an ankle injury, scored 3 goals and handed out 1 assist. Campaniello tallied a goal and 3 assists. He now has a team leading 14 assists on the season and is ranked 6th in the nation in this statistical category.
Freshman midfielder Jack Timerson (Newark, NY) contributed to the Lakers offense today with 1 goal and 1 assist.
Freshman midfielder Matt Fuller (Medina, NY) rounded out the goal scoring column for Finger Lakes as he scored the teams other remaining goal.
Freshman midfielder Albert Thompson (Medina, NY) and sophomore defender Andres Torruella (Geneva, NY) each added an assist for the Lakers in the losing effort.
In goal, freshman John Perrucci (Myrtle Beach, SC) notched 12 saves in 60 minutes worth of action for Finger Lakes.
The Lakers will remain on the road for their next game. They will travel to Niagara County Community College this Wednesday (3/28). Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
