Lacrosse – Lakers Fall To #5 Nationally Ranked Suffolk
CANANDAIGUA, NY. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lakers (5-5, 2-0 MSAC) fell to the Suffolk County Community College Sharks today at home, 14-5. The Sharks, the fifth ranked team in the nation*, controlled the tempo of the game right from faceoff. Suffolk built a 9-0 lead after two periods of play by scoring five goals in the first and four in the second.
The Lakers struggled offensively in the first three periods of today's game, scoring just one goal before entering the fourth. Despite their struggles on the offensive end of the field this afternoon, the Lakers never backed down, playing a competitive second half. Finger Lakes defense as a whole was a key highlight to the team's second half success. They held the Sharks to a total of five goals in the third and fourth periods.
In a losing effort, Steve Campaniello (Rochester, NY) led the Lakers in the scoring department today with a goal and 2 assists. Finger Lakes also received one goal each from Joshua Taylor (Calgary, Alberta), Rob Pelkey (Fairport, NY), Tom Loudon (Overland Park, KS), and Chris Tauterouff (Canandaigua, NY).
In goal, John Perrucci (Myrtle Beach, SC) stopped 19 shots on the afternoon for Finger Lakes in 57 minutes worth of action.
The team will be back in action on Wednesday April 4th at Mercyhurst Northeast. Game time is slated for 4pm.
