Lacrosse – Lakers Drop Regular Season Finale To Nation's Top Team

CANANDAIGUA, NY. – The undefeated and #1 nationally ranked Onondaga Community College Lazers (14-0) were no match for the Finger Lakes Community College Lakers (9-11, 3-2 MSAC, 7-7 Region III) this afternoon. The Lazers took down the Lakers, 35-3, finishing the 2012 regular season with a perfect record.

Game Summary and Recap: Onondaga controlled the tempo of the game on offense and defense. With their thirty-five goal effort, the Lazers finished the regular season by scoring thirty or more goals in eight of their fourteen victories. Onondaga did an exceptional job of keeping the Lakers top goal scorers in check by playing a physical style of defense all game long.

Individual Game Highlights: Finger Lakes received one goal each from Albert Thompson (Medina, NY), Matt Fuller (Medina, NY), and Joshua Taylor (Calgary, Alberta). Thompson was the leading point scorer for the Lakers as he added an assist to go along with his goal. He finished the game with two points.

Jack Timerson (Newark, NY) and Kyle Eckam (Rochester, NY) each added one assist apiece for Finger Lakes.

Goaltending: Lakers starter John Perrucci (Myrtle Beach, SC) played in 40 minutes worth of action. He finished the game with 7 saves and 30 goals allowed. Nate Gardner (Newark, NY) played the other 20 minutes for Finger Lakes. He finished the game with 5 goals allowed. Gardner did not record a save.

Next Up - NJCAA Region III Tournament: The Lakers will play their next game on Wednesday (5/2) when they take on #4 nationally ranked Genesee Community College (14-2) on the road in the first round of the 2012 NJCAA Men's Lacrosse Region III Tournament. Finger Lakes will enter the tournament as a seventh seed. Genesee enters tournament play with the two seed. Faceoff is slated for 7:00 pm.
