Lakers Fall to No. 1 Nationally Ranked Onondaga CC on the Road

SYRACUSE, NY. – The Lakers ran into the nation's top ranked team last night in the Onondaga CC Lazers. Facing off on OCC's Murphy Field, the Lakers were playing a team that was riding a 54-game win streak heading into the mid-afternoon contest. Onondaga, fresh off of a one-goal, 15-14 win over No. 2 nationally ranked CCBC-Essex on Saturday, Mar. 9, was looking to pick up its third win of the early season.
On a brisk March day in Syracuse, the Lazers (3-0, 1-0) managed to muster up 33 goals against the Lakers (1-4, 0-1). The game, which was the first MSAC contest of the season for both teams, would result in a 33-5 victory in favor of Onondaga.
Despite falling, the Lakers received yet another solid offensive day from Jack Timerson. The sophomore attackman scored four of the Lakers five goals. Albert Thompson, coming off of a 3-goal, 3-assist effort on Sunday, Mar. 10 at Union County College, registered Finger Lakes remaining goal. Contributing one assist apiece in the road affair were Corey Roed and Brandon Grace.
In goal, John Perrucci turned away 21 Lazer shots in the starting role for the Lakers. Also seeing time in goal for Finger Lakes were Matthew Ebanez and Nathan Gardner. Ebanez, in 23 minutes of playtime, collected 5 saves. Gardner, who saw 10 minutes in net, added a pair of saves in the conference showdown.
For OCC, Randy Staats compiled 5 goals and 3 assists to lead the hosts. Also supplying the Lazers with 5 goals in addition to 2 assists was Jordan Saunderson. Both Staats and Saunderson were 2 of 16 Lazers who registered at least one helper in Wednesday's game. Following them in the goal-scoring column for OCC with a 4-goal effort was Shelton VanEvery.
In goal, starter Warren Hill notched 5 saves in 30 minutes for the Lazers. DJ Mauro and James Maxwell, both of whom saw 15 minutes of action in substitution roles in goal, added 5 saves and 3 saves respectively for OCC.
Finger Lakes will make its way back onto the field this Saturday as it is set to take on conference foe Jefferson CC on the road beginning at 3 pm.
