CANANDAIGUA – The Lakers, coming off of back-to-back home victories over Mohawk Valley CC (23-3, Mar. 26) and Niagara County CC (17-4, Mar. 30), will travel to Dryden, NY today to take on the Tompkins Cortland CC Panthers. Finger Lakes, currently 4-6 overall, enters the road matchup donning a 1-1 record in MSAC action this season. The Panthers will hit the field today wearing a 1-4 (1-2 MSAC) record. Faceoff is scheduled for 4 pm.
Both teams met once during the 2012 men's lacrosse season. Last year's meeting between the Lakers and Panthers, which took place on Apr. 14 in Finger Lakes yard, resulted in an 11-10 victory for Tompkins Cortland. Former Laker Joshua Taylor ('12) led Finger Lakes in scoring with six goals in that contest. In net, current Lakers starting goalie John Perrucci notched 18 saves on the day in 60 minutes of action.
Finger Lakes will enter play today carrying the nation's leading goal scorer on its roster. His name is Jack Timerson. The sophomore attackman, in 10 games played this spring, has totaled 38 goals. In addition, he is tied for second in the nation in scoring (49 points) with ASA College's Casey Jackson.
For the Lakers, Robert Pelkey and Parker Weeks are also playing at a consistent high rate on offense this season. Pelkey is currently tied for fourth in the nation in goals scored with Ken Meinsen (Suffolk CC) and Jordan Saunderson (Onondaga CC). All three players have registered 26 goals apiece in 2013. Furthermore, Pelkey is currently tenth in the nation in scoring as he has delivered 37 points on the field thus far this season. He, like Timerson, has played in each of the Lakers 10 games.
The sophomore Weeks has been Finger Lakes main setup man this season. In seven games played, the Canandaigua native has administered 19 assists. Over his last two games (against Mohawk Valley and Niagara County), Weeks has accrued 11 assists.
To date, the Lakers have used a three-man system in net this season – consisting of Perrucci, Nathan Gardner, and Matthew Ebanez. Perrucci, after putting forth a solid freshman campaign, is shining bright in his sophomore season. He is currently second in the nation in saves with 148. Perrucci has been at the forefront of the starting goaltender role for all 10 Laker games in 2013. Gardner and Ebanez have seen action in six and seven games respectively.
