Lakers Hit the Road on Wednesday in Search of Sixth Consecutive Win

CANANDAIGUA -- The Lakers will travel tomorrow to play at No. 9 Monroe CC for a 3 pm start time. Finger Lakes, currently enduring a five-game win streak, will be looking to break the school record on Wednesday for most consecutive wins in the history of the program. Finger Lakes, entering play with a record of 7-6, will be seeking its first win ever over the 4-6 Tribunes when it takes the field in the road contest.

Almost opposite of the Lakers win streak is the four-game losing streak that MCC is currently on. The Tribunes, over their last four contests, have fallen in consecutive order to SUNY Delhi, CCBC Essex, Nassau CC, and Suffolk CC. Finger Lakes, during its winning streak, has compiled consecutive victories over Mohawk Valley CC, Niagara County CC, Tompkins Cortland CC, Alfred State College, and Hudson Valley CC.

The Lakers and Tribunes met once during the 2012 season on MCC's field (on Apr. 25). Monroe CC, ranked sixth at the time, claimed victory 16-5. In the losing effort, current Laker Jack Timerson posted a goal and two assists. Another current Laker, goalie John Perrucci, stopped 14 shots in the contest.

Finger Lakes carries a ton of positive momentum into tomorrow's showdown. Currently, they boast the nation's top goal scorer in Timerson. The sophomore attackman, in 13 games played this season, has racked up 55 goals. The individual closest to him in the goals scored column is ASA's Casey Jackson, who has found the net 46 times in 2013. In addition to his number one ranking in goals scored, Timerson is second in the nation in points with 75. He stands just six points behind Onondaga CC's Randy Staats for the top spot nationally.

Timerson comes into Wednesday's game one goal and five points short of the record for most goals and points in a season respectively in FLCC lacrosse history. He, along with the entire Lakers roster, has showed great cohesiveness this spring. Timerson's play has been joined by the solid efforts of Robert Pelkey and Parker Weeks. Pelkey is currently fourth in the nation with his 42 goals, while Weeks ranks third nationally with his 33 assists.

On the goal-stopping front, the Lakers have been led by Perrucci's outstanding play in net all season long. As the team's starting goalie, the sophomore from Myrtle Beach, SC has recorded a nation's best 181 saves in 13 games in 2013. Furthermore, Finger Lakes has also received valuable efforts out of Nathan Gardner and Matthew Ebanez in the crease.

Anchoring the defensive forefront for the Lakers in their first 13 games includes the likes of Cullen Smith, Jake Smith, Kyle Grove, Killian Nau, Tim LaGasse, and David Milliman. These Laker players, along with the goaltending services of Perrucci, Gardner, and Ebanez, have held opposing offenses to eight goals or less in each game during the 5-0 streak.
