Soccer – International Summer Camp To Be Offered At Finger Lakes

CANANDAIGUA, NY. -- Imagine having the opportunity to be coached by a cast of world class professional soccer coaches? Do you always think -- I would give anything to be coached by the best? Well, you no longer have to dream about wondering if you will ever be granted this chance -- as Finger Lakes Community College (CC) will make your dreams become a reality this summer. The college and the Spanish/Andaluza soccer Federation have teamed up to bring the first ever International Soccer Summer Camp to the Canandaigua campus this coming August. Here is a look at what the camp will offer:

FIFA Licensed Coaching Staff -- Coaches Antonio Barea and Jose Antonio Martinez, a pair of successful professional soccer coaches from Spain will be featured at the five-day camp -- bringing with them over twenty years of combined coaching experience. Finger Lakes CC first year head men's soccer coach Brent Conley along with first year assistant coach David Garcia will join Martinez and Barea as part of a "four-team" coaching staff. Type of Training Offered at Camp -- Each camper will receive technical and tactical training -- the necessary components for becoming a quality soccer player. Match related situations along with personalized feedback and evaluations will also be included in each camp session. Each session is molded to provide a true understanding of what it takes to become a professional soccer player at the highest international level. Each camper will receive training focused on individual skill development. Team play will be included on a daily basis throughout the entirety of the week.

Participants -- The camp will be offered to college and high school varsity/ junior varsity boys and girls soccer players ages 14-20. Each camper will be grouped by age and ability.

Dates and Times of Camp -- Starting on Monday, August 6th and concluding on Friday, August 10th, each camper will receive five hours of daily instruction at each camp session -- beginning at 8:30 am and concluding at 2:30 pm.

Daily Schedule Itinerary

8:30 am – 9:45 am: Feedback -- video analyzing on offense and defense will be administered

9:45 am – 11:00 am: Correction -- coaching philosophies will be given to each camper on how to establish better habits on the field at each position

11:00 am – 11:30 am: Lunch

11:30 am – 12:45 pm: Introduction -- the importance of developing proper techniques as a player on the field will be discussed and demonstrated

12:45 pm – 2:30 pm: Attack and defense session -- simulations will be performed consisting of drills and team play. The Friday session will include nutritional tips on what soccer athletes put in their bodies in order to sustain a great level of performance when practicing and playing the sport (each camper will learn about nutrition, hydration, and how to develop positive eating habits).

Also Included -- The coaching staff will discuss detailed information on what it takes for a soccer athlete to develop his or her body from a conditioning standpoint. Sports psychology will also be discussed (the importance of developing a positive mindset towards wellness training, teammates, opponents, and the game will be of focus). In addition, leadership and life skills will be of great importance at this camp. Each coach will stress the significance of developing leadership skills (listening, team management, and decision-making) both on and off of the field. 

Cost of Camp -- $150 per camper -- cost includes a camp T-shirt and soccer ball. Optional Language Program Offered -- Prior to the start of camp, each camper will be given the opportunity to take a Spanish speaking skills seminar. The purpose of this program is to help develop and boost your Spanish speaking skills confidence in preparation for the camp.

Featured Coaches From Spain

Barea -- is a professor of CEDIFA, an organization that dedicates itself to training future soccer coaches. Over the past ten years, he has trained soccer players from the Spanish Professional League and members of the Granada CF coaching staff. Barea teaches player development on and off of the field. On a day-to-day basis, he demonstrates the ability to improve player techniques through his knowledge of the game of soccer. In his teachings, he also preaches the importance of game tactics.

Martinez -- teaches the value of developing players social, mental, technical, and physical abilities. His work in player development gears strongly towards improving the attitudes and habits of individual soccer players.
