Men’s Soccer - Lakers Lose Fourth Straight by Falling to Broome on Road
BINGHAMTON, NY. – The Lakers traveled to Binghamton yesterday to take on Broome CC (conference member) in search of their first victory of 2012.
Unfortunately, Finger Lakes (0-4-1 overall, 0-2 MSAC) search must continue. They left the area with their fourth consecutive loss – falling 4-1.
Broome set the tone of the game in the first half – where they accounted for 3 of their 4 goals. The sizeable lead that the Hornets built at intermission would stand strong for the remaining 45 minutes of the contest.
Despite falling, the Lakers didn't go down without being heard from. In both half's of Tuesday's contest, Finger Lakes defenders did an excellent job of pressuring the Hornets for the length of the game.
Coming out trailing 3-0 in half two, the Lakers showed resiliency in spite of the score. They continued to play hard on defense and also came to life on offense.
Finger Lakes offense found the scoreboard at the 80 minute marker – erasing the zero that stood on it. That goal was had by sophomore defender Christian Kissel. Freshman midfielder Michael Cooper was on the passing end of it.
Take the first half out of the picture and the Lakers played an evenly matched game. They might not have been even in terms of numbers of players on the pitch in the second half with Broome, but regardless, Finger Lakes fought throughout the remainder of it. The Lakers received a duo of red cards in half two – which eventually left them with just 9 players on the field.
Outside of Finger Lakes woes, they learned yesterday that they now have a reliable second goalkeeper. Splitting time with Shane Bly, Matthew MacKerchar played the entire second half, allowing just one goal in the process. Both Bly and MacKerchar tallied 1 save apiece in the loss.
The Lakers will continue their quest to gather win number one on the 2012 season this Saturday (9/8) when they take on Corning CC (conference member) at home. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
