Men’s Soccer – Lakers Come Up Short to Clinton at Home, 3-1

CANANDAIGUA – The Lakers entered Saturday's (9/22) home matchup with Clinton CC in the midst of a three-game home win streak. Finger Lakes (3-7-1, 1-2 MSAC) – aiming to extend that streak on the grounds of their own campus – came up short in its quest. They fell to a well-balanced team in the Cougars – 3-1.

The game, which took place on the first day of fall, featured a total of 15 shots amongst the teams. The Lakers, despite falling, outshot Clinton – 9-6. The scoring went like this.

Finger Lakes notched its lone helper in the first half when freshman forward Samuel Saie deposited a Christian Kissel (defender) pass into the Cougars net.

Clinton, however, not outdone, found the goal-scoring column twice prior to intermission. Taking a 2-1 lead heading in the second 45 minutes of Saturday's contest, the Cougars would go on to tack on an insurance goal in half number two to secure the 3-1 road victory.

On a side note, Lakers starting keeper Shane Bly stopped 3 of Clinton's 6 shots in the afternoon showdown.

With the loss, Finger Lakes is now 3-3-1 at home in 2012.

The win, at the time, gave the Cougars an overall record of 6-3 on the season.

The Lakers will look to rebound in their next game, which is scheduled for tomorrow (9/25) when they travel to Batavia, NY to take on #2 nationally ranked Genesee CC. Genesee, known as the Cougars, will host Finger Lakes on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
