Track and Field – Finger Lakes Participates In Rochester City Classic
ROCHESTER, NY. – The Finger Lakes Community College men and women's track and field team participated in the Rochester City Classic on Saturday (4/7) at Nazareth College.
On a team note, the Finger Lakes men's 4X100 Meter Relay team, which is made up of Damien Brown (Liverpool, NY), Samuel Beckwith (Ovid, NY), Jeremy Westerfield (Penn Yan, NY), and Anthony Shuler (Liverpool, NY), placed fifth overall with a time of 46.08. On a personal (and team) note, the Finger Lakes men's 4X400 Relay Team, which is made up of Shuler, Andrew Superak (Davis, CA), Joel Vollenweider (Canandaigua, NY), and Westerfield, placed its fastest time of the year with a 3:40.17 showing. As a team, they finished seventh overall in this event.
On an individual note, both the Finger Lakes men and women's top finishes this afternoon came via the High Jump. Julie Brooks (Holley, NY) finished this event with a second place showing for the women by placing a distance of 1.52 meters (4'11 ¾"). Superak placed third in this event for the men with a distance of 1.70 meters (5'7"). On top of her second place finish in the High Jump, Brooks also added a strong performance in the women's Triple Jump. She finished fifth in this event with an NJCAA qualifying distance of 9.57 meters (31'4 ¾'').
Leigha Tilton (Livonia, NY) also placed inside the top five for the women in the High Jump by finishing fourth with a distance of 1.47 meters (4'9 ¾''). Tilton added solid showings in the women's 100 Meter Dash and 100 Meter Hurdles. She finished fifth in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 14.06 and sixth in the 100 Meter Hurdles with a time of 18.35.
The Finger Lakes men's team received fifth place finishes in the follow events; the Steeplechase (Jason Woodard, Manchester, NY, time of 11:25.89), the Shot Put (Joseph Christian IV, Webster, NY, distance of 12.89 meters (42'3 ½'')), and the triple jump (Shuler, distance of 13.00 meters (42'8")).
On a record breaking note, Nicholas Jasikoff (Ovid, NY) broke the school record at Finger Lakes in the men's Hammer Throw with a throw of 35.24 meters (115'7"). He finished eleventh in this event.
Finger Lakes will participate in its next meet on Saturday (4/14) at the University of Rochester Invitational. The meet is expected to get underway at 9:00 am.
