Bio

Scott Williams will take over his first season as the Head Track and Field Coach at Finger Lakes Community College in the Spring of 2015. He previously spent three seasons as an assistant coach. Williams also serves as the head coach of the Cross Country programs at Finger Lakes.

Prior to joining Finger Lakes, Williams taught Physical Education classes at the K-12 level in Candor, Elmira and Corning and coached cross country, wrestling, indoor track and outdoor track for the Elmira Heights, Corning and Horseheads school districts.  Williams has coached 23 individual and 5 relay Section IV Champions in these sports as well as the first girls Section IV NYS Federation Cross Country Champion back in 1999 while at Horseheads. During his six year coaching career, student athletes have qualified for the state meet in each season for six years in a row, prior to becoming an administrator.

Williams ran cross country, indoor and outdoor track for the University of Delaware. Williams earned All-East Coast Conference (4th) honors his senior year and was a three-time All-IC4A runner (14th, 2nd and 4th place) in cross country.  Williams was the cross country team captain – both as a junior and senior as well track captain in his senior year as well as Alumni Award recipient. Williams ran the 3mile indoors recording a 14:09 personal best and the 5,000m/10,000m outdoors and qualified for the Penn Relays twice.  Williams has personal best times of 30:44 for the 10K and 14:45 for the 5K and has run 5 marathons, with a personal best time of 2:34:36 in 1981.

Prior to his teaching career, Williams was as an Army Officer for 6 years, serving at Fort Wainwright, Alaska as well as the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, New York. During this time, Williams was a two time All-Army Cross Country Team qualifier and represented the United States Armed Forces team in the World Militaire (CISM) Cross Country Championships (held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) in 1986.

Williams is a USATF certified Level One distance coach and is employed by the WFL BOCES as a Shared Data Coordinator.
