Alfred, NY – The Finger Lakes Community College men's cross country team began its 2011 campaign on a great note on Saturday, taking the victory at the Alfred State Invitational with an overall score of 47 points. Other teams that competed in the event included; Onondaga Community College (53 points), Alfred State College (60 points), North Country Community College (84 points), and Herkimer Community College (102 points). The win, was the first in school history for the Lakers at this event. FLCC received strong performances from NJCAA All-American Jordan Merritt (Pen Yan), Joel Vollenweider (Canandaigua), and Matt Reick (Victor). Merritt placed 2nd, Vollenweider placed 7th, and Reick added an 8th place showing. Mike Pitcher (Hornell), 13th, Joe Ellinger (Clyde), 17th, Dave Herbert (Wayland), 19th, and Josh Corey (Marcus Whitman), 21st, each added good performances for FLCC.
The Lakers next meet will take place this coming Saturday (September 17th) at home, where they will be hosting the Bruce Bridgman Invitational. The meet is set to get underway at 11:00 a.m.
