Cross Country – Finger Lakes Participates in DeSales University Invitational
Center Valley, PA. – The FLCC men and women ran in the DeSales University Invitational over the weekend. Traveling out of New York State and into the Keystone State on Saturday (10/13), FLCC showed no signs of rust after hitting the road for the close to 275-mile one-way trip. Both divisions turned in solid all-around performances in a field that contained a great deal of quality two and four-year institutions.
The Lakers, who made the jaunt around an 8k set-up, were led by freshman Kevin Schoonmaker and his personal best time of 30:11. Following him just shortly after he crossed the finish line was teammate Joshua Corey with a time of 30:59.
Brandon Smith (31:20), Jason Woodard (32:01), and Jesse Martinez (32:26), each turned in quality races for FLCC. Smith's time was a personal best while Martinez's was nearly 1:30 quicker than his previous best time.
Also contributing in the meet for the Lakers with a pair of solid showings were Nicholaus Pruden (32:49) and Samuel Mozingo (32:58).
The Lady Lakers, who competed on a 6k course on Saturday, were paced by Caitlin Drennan and Carlye Cole – both of whom set personal best times. Drennan finished the trek with a time of 30:04 while Cole contributed with a 37:22 finish.
Both the FLCC men and women will compete next in the NJCAA Division III Region III Championships at Mohawk Valley CC on Saturday, October 27th. The start time for the race is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
