FLCC Softball Drops To Alfred State
Softball Highlights - May 6
The Finger Lakes Community College women's softball team completed their season over the weekend.The Lakers finished with a record of 4-35 (2-21 in Region III play). They played 5 nationally ranked teams throughout the 2011 season while playing the most games in school history (39).
The Lakers lost a pair of games to Alfred State on Friday by scores of 8-0 and 1-0. Shelby Marra (Spencerport) combined to pitch 12 innings in both games, allowing just 4 earned runs for FLCC. She also added 2 hits at the plate in the doubleheader. Kayla Kline (Mynderse) combined for a pair of hits for the Lakers in both games.
On Saturday, FLCC hosted Lakeland CC (a top regional team from Ohio). The Lakers lost both of its games by scores of 10-0 and 10-2. Katy Alaimo (Geneva) highlighted FLCC's offense by combining for 2 hits and 2 RBI in the doubleheader.
The Lakers wrapped up their 2011 regular season on Sunday against Monroe CC (ranked 3rd nationally); losing twice by scores of 4-0 and 12-0. Marra pitched a complete game in game 1 while allowing just 6 hits. MCC took a no hit bid into the 6th inning of the first game before Sarah Roza (Greece Arcadia) broke it up. Alaimo added a hit for FLCC. In game 2, Shealena Marnell (Moravia) led the Lakers with 2 hits while Roza added another.
FLCC looks to continue to build its softball program next season. They will be returning 4 players and have 8 recruits committed to joining the team for the 2012 campaign.
