2012 Season Preview – Lady Lakers Revamp Team with Talented Coaching and Players

CANANDAIGUA, NY. - The Finger Lakes Community College Lady Lakers look to bounce back in 2012 by improving upon last season's four-win total. The Lady Lakers welcome the hiring of new head coach Pat Clark along with assistant coach Kristen Schuth. Previously, Clark served as the head women's softball coach at Genesee Community College (GCC) in 2011. Prior to being promoted to head coach at GCC, he served as the team's assistant coach from 2005-10. Previously, Schuth served as the head women's softball coach at GCC from 2004-10.

On the field, FLCC will be returning a crop of talent that is expected to bring veteran leadership to the team this season. Centerfielder Sarah Roza (Rochester, NY) brings speed to the outfield as well as a quality bat to the plate. In 2011, Roza hit .308, produced 13 Runs Batted In (RBI), and scored 10 runs in 35 games played. Shea Marnell (Moravia, NY) provides the team with a versatile glove, having the ability to play catcher and the outfield. She also brings added offense to the lineup. In 2011, she accumulated a .274 batting average and produced 11 RBI in 34 games played.

Kayla Kline (Seneca Falls, NY) is the most versatile player and key returner on the team in 2012. In 2011, she split her time in the field as an infielder and starting pitcher. Kline's greatest asset is her bat. Last season, she hit .330, produced 11 RBI, and scored 9 runs in 37 games played. Starting pitcher Shelby Marra (Spencerport, NY) will provide the Lady Lakers with a strong returning arm from 2011. Last season, she pitched 126.1 innings, posted a 4.65 Earned Run Average, and accumulated 37 strikeouts.

FLCC has a multitude of talented freshman joining the team this season. First baseman Ashley Sheesley (Lowman, NY) brings with her a valuable bat, making for her to be a recognizable force at the plate. Second baseman Amalia Dolley's (Horseheads, NY) combination of speed and hitting ability will be an added asset to the team. Third baseman Samantha German (Horseheads, NY) is expected to have the best bat on the roster. German has the ability to hit for average and power, and is expected to be a key run producer.

Catcher Nicole Taylor (Shortsville, NY) brings a strong arm to the team behind the plate. She has the ability to throw out runners in the field and is also a great signal caller. Starting pitcher Kristyn Maleski (Waterloo, NY) brings added durability on the mound, providing the team with an arm that is capable of overpowering opposing hitters.
