Softball - Lady Lakers Offense and Pitching Shines In Win Over Alfred State

MYRTLE BEACH, SC. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lady Lakers picked up their first victory of the 2012 season today by downing Alfred State College, 6-2. The game, which was held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (neutral site), consisted of multiple valuable performances out of the Lady Lakers offense and starting pitcher Joelle Robards (freshman, Hornell, NY).

Finger Lakes did an exquisite job of hitting the ball around the park today. Leading the way for the Lady Lakers in the hitting department was freshman third baseman Samantha German (Horseheads, NY). On the morning, German slugged 3 hits, finishing the game by going 3 for 4 from the plate. She also tacked on a pair of RBI in the win.

Finger Lakes also received 2 hits each from freshmen Chelsie Travis (shortstop, Penn Yan, NY), Nicole Taylor (catcher, Shortsville, NY), and Amalia Dolley (second baseman, Horseheads, NY). Travis finished the game by going 2 for 3 from the plate. She also scored once and drove in one run. Taylor and Dolley each finished the game by going 2 for 4 from the plate.

On the mound, the Lady Lakers received a quality start out of Robards. The freshman picked up the win, finishing the game with 5 strikeouts and no walks. In the win, Robards managed to allow just 5 hits.
