Softball – Lady Lakers Drop Final Home Doubleheader Of Regular Season

CANANDAIGUA, NY. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lady Lakers dropped a pair of home games this afternoon to the Alfred State College Lady Pioneers (5-25), 6-0 (game one) and 6-1 (game two). The doubleheader marked the final home games of the 2012 regular season for the Lady Lakers.  

Game One Summary - The Lady Pioneers received stellar pitching out of starter Kristen Potter in the opener. She went the distance on the mound, holding Finger Lakes to just three hits. Alfred State's defense was also a key attribute in the win. The Lady Pioneers displayed great leather throughout the game around the diamond. Offensively, Alfred State made their mark on the Lady Lakers in the second inning when they crossed the plate for a total of four times. Needless to say, the Lady Pioneers did not look back after their productive second inning.

Lady Lakers Game One Indivudal Highlights - Samantha German (Horseheads, NY) collected two of Finger Lakes three hits by turning in a 2 for 3 effort from the plate.

Cassidy Smyers (Wellsville, NY) accounted for the other Lady Laker hit. She finished the game with a 1 for 2 showing at the dish.

Game Two Summary - Potter gathered her second victory of the day on the hill in the nightcap. She helped earn Alfred State's sweep of the Lady Lakers by hurling three innings of one-run relief. The Lady Pioneers not only received solid pitching yet again in game two, they also executed timely hitting by producing with their bats with runners in scoring position.

Lady Lakers Game Two Individual Highlights - Jeri Baker (Harrisville, NY) led Finger Lakes in the hitting department by going a perfect 3 for 3 from the plate in the losing effort.

Tamara Robertson (Farmington, NY) also contributed a perfect day from the dish with her bat for the Lady Lakers by going 2 for 2.

Smyers, Shelby Marra (Spencerport, NY), and Nicole Taylor (Shortsville, NY) each added 1 for 3 games with their sticks for Finger Lakes.

Upcoming Games - The Lady Lakers will play their next set of games on the road on Saturday (5/5) when they travel to Rochester, NY to take on #10 nationally ranked Monroe Community College (22-16). The first pitch of game one is slated to be thrown at 12:00 pm.
