Lady Lakers Ink Multidimensional Player in Kelly Kier to 2013 Roster
CANANDAIGUA -- Finger Lakes Community College has landed yet another marquee recruit! Just several weeks after inking Rachel Mertens, a tall talented right handed pitcher out of Syracuse, NY, the Lady Lakers have signed yet another star studded player. This time, Finger Lakes took their recruiting abilities west to Gananda, NY, where they discovered Kelly Kier, a multidimensional prodigy who is a superb pitcher as well as a potent hitter. Kier, a right hander, will factor to be a vital asset in the Lady Lakers rotation and batting order next season thanks to the unprecedented capabilities that she brings to the team as a pitcher and hitter.
The Gananda High School graduate was an electric pitcher on the mound in 2012 for her school's softball team. Her stat line as a hurler this past season consisted of a 9-1 win-loss record along with a 1.78 Earned Run Average. Her staggering record and ERA came with 66 strikeouts against just 15 walks in 70 innings worth of action. As a pitcher, Kier surrendered just 35 hits all season long to opposing offenses.
In addition to her stifling arm, the righty was also a major success in the batter's box in 2012. She served as a menace at the plate with her stick by producing a .443 batting average. On the season, she registered a hit in 35 of her 79 at-bats. Her high batting average came with ample run production and a gaudy .546 on-base percentage. She knocked in 40 of her teammates on the season all while crossing the plate on her own 37 times. Slightly over a third of her hits, 6 doubles and 6 triples, were good for extra bases. Her staggering stats came with a miniscule amount of strikeouts at the dish. Kier was a victim of just four strikeouts as a hitter in 2012.
When Kier wasn't busy mowing down opposing hitters in the batter's box this past season, her duties were called upon at first base, where she served as a lethal defender. Throughout 2012, she succumb to just three errors as a pitcher and first baseman.
Kier was twice named First Team All-County for Wayne County in 2011 and 2012. In addition, she was selected to the 2012 Section V All-Tournament team. On paper, she automatically gives the Lady Lakers a boost in the rotation as well as in their lineup.
