Lady Lakers hit the road today for doubleheader at Mohawk Valley

CANANDAIGUA – The Lady Lakers will travel today as they are set to take on Mohawk Valley CC this afternoon for a pair of games. First pitch is expected to be thrown at 3 pm. Finger Lakes will enter play with a 9-18 record while the Lady Hawks will come into action 11-13.

The Lady Lakers paired up with Mohawk Valley twice in 2012. In a home doubleheader on Apr. 26, Finger Lakes dropped games one and two 14-6 and 1-0, respectively.

The Lady Lakers arrive into the Lady Hawks territory today supporting a .322 team batting average. They currently boast three hitters in the .400 or greater batting average column. Leading the squad in hitting with a .450 average is Tamara Robertson. Following her with .407 and .405 batting averages are Katie Plummer and Samantha German, respectively.

German, in addition to her average, leads the team in home runs (4) and RBIs (23).

Freshmen Rachel Mertens and Elaina Evinsky have anchored the pitching staff all season long for the Lady Lakers. Mertens has pitched to the tune of a 3.22 Earned Run Average. In 76 innings worth of work, the Syracuse, NY native has accumulated 71 strikeouts against just 14 walks.

Evinsky currently leads the team in wins with 5. In 58 innings pitched, the Spencerport High School graduate has posted 45 strikeouts.
