Lakers Drop Pair of Games to Corning Community College
CORNING, N.Y. -- The Finger Lakes Community College softball team dropped a pair of conference games on the road on Tuesday to Corning Community College, 1-0 and 10-0. The Lakers fall to 9-18 on the season, while the Red Barons improve to 9-11.
The Lakers will travel to Rome, N.Y. this afternoon to square off with Mohawk Valley Community College. The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3p.m.
Game 1 - Corning Community College 1, Finger Lakes Community College 0
Freshman Rachel Mertens pitched well enough to earn the victory, giving up just one run over six innings pitched. Mertens only allowed four hits, while she punched out five batters.
The Lakers offense mustered just three hits over seven innings pitched. Mertens and Courtney Edger each recorded a hit, while Elaina Evinsky doubled.
Game 2 - Corning Community College 10, Finger Lakes Community College 0 (F/4inn.)
The Lakers recorded three hits in the back end of the doubleheader. Kelly Kier recorded a hit, while sophomore Tamara Robertson singled twice, going 2-for-2 on the day.
Elaina Evinsky started the game, giving up six runs on just three hits over two innings pitched. Kelly Kier entered in relief in the third inning, allowing four runs on just two hits.
