Lakers Lose in Ohio
KIRTLAND, Ohio -- The Finger Lakes Community College softball team traveled 258 miles westward on Sunday to square off with Lakeland Community College. The Lakers dropped both games to the Kirtland, Ohio based community college, 3-0 and 16-1.
Game 1 -- Lakeland Community College 3, Finger Lakes Community College 0
Rachel Mertens tossed five innings and gave up three earned runs on five hits. The Syracuse, N.Y. native struck out three batters, while walking just two batters. Elaina Evinsky pitched the remaining two innings, striking out two batters.
The Lakers received four hits. Mertens, Kelly Kier, Courtney Edger, and Katie Plummer each recorded a hit.
Game 2 -- Rained Out
Rain fell within the middle innnings and postponed the game before it reached the final. The game will not be rescheduled.
