FLCC Concludes Regular Season Today Against No. 7 Monroe CC

CANANDAIGUA – Finger Lakes CC will wrap up its 2013 regular season campaign this evening as it is set to host No. 7 Monroe CC at home beginning at 5 pm. The Lady Lakers will arrive into the game carrying a 14-22 record while the Lady Tribunes will come into play 19-15 overall.

Finger Lakes enters today coming off of a road split yesterday with Hudson Valley CC. The Lady Lakers, in that doubleheader, fell in game one 2-1 before winning the nightcap 7-3. Monroe, like the Lady Lakers, was also in action on Tuesday. In a pair of road games at No. 2 Herkimer County CC, the Lady Tribunes fell in consecutive order by the scores of 4-1 and 13-2.

Both squads last met on May 5, 2012 on MCC's field. Finger Lakes, in what was a doubleheader, dropped both contests.

At this evening's game, all sophomores on FLCC's roster will be honored prior to first pitch. Representing this year's cast of sophomores for the Lady Lakers will be Emily Essom, Samantha German, Tamara Robertson, Ashley Sheesley, Cassidy Smyers, and Nicole Taylor.

Finger Lakes, this season, has endured quite a few positives. As a team, it comes into play today with a .297 batting average. In addition to their solid hitting, the Lady Lakers have received quality pitching in 2013. Their staff, prior to this evening's regular season finale, has produced a 3.91 Earned Run Average.

Finger Lakes currently has six players on its roster hitting .300 or better. Leading the pack in hitting is Mertens. The freshman phenom is hitting .377 with a team leading 22 runs scored. German and Robertson are also hitting over .370 as well. German's batting average stands in at .374 while Robertson's reads .371.

German, in addition to her average, leads the team in home runs (4) and RBIs (24).

Also joining the .300 hit club this spring for Finger Lakes are Katie Plummer (.360), Kelly Kier (.316), and Taylor Briggs (.303). 

In terms of pitching, Mertens, on top of being the team leader in hitting, carries the top ERA (2.84) in the rotation. The Syracuse, NY native currently ranks fifth and sixth in the nation in strikeouts (105) and innings pitched (113.1), respectively.
