Track and Field – Finger Lakes Participates In U Of R Invitational

ROCHESTER, NY. – The Finger Lakes Community College men and women's track and field team participated in the University of Rochester (U of R) Invitational this afternoon. In an overcast, but yet mild day in terms of temperature, the women and men raced to thirteenth and fifteenth place finishes respectively in their divisions. Today's meet was scored based upon a total of 21 events. A total of 16 teams competed in each of the men's and women's divisions. The U of R women (169 points) and men (159 points) both placed first place in their divisions. The final team results can be seen at the bottom of this article.

Individual Performances

Women - Leigha Tilton (Livonia, NY) and Julie Brooks (Holley, NY) both recorded top five finishes in the High Jump. Tilton placed second with a distance of 1.53 meters (m). Brooks came in fourth with a distance of 1.48 m. Alexa Thayer of Houghton and Lisa Knab of St. John Fisher College placed first (1.63 m) and third (1.53 m) in this event. Along with her second place finish in the high jump, Tilton added an NJCAA qualifying performance in the 110 Meter Hurdles with a time of 17.95. She finished in 13th place.

Men - Anthony Shuler (Liverpool, NY) highlighted Finger Lakes with his fifth and eighth place showings in the Triple Jump (12.76 m) and 400 Meter Dash (time of 52.3). Daquan Coleman of SUNY Oswego came in first in the Triple Jump (13.43 m). Nicholas Chisholm of the U of R came in first in the 400 Meter Dash (time of 49.57). Andrew Superak (Davis, CA) added a ninth place effort in the High Jump for Finger Lakes with a distance of 1.73 m. Luke Taverne of SUNY Geneseo placed first in the High Jump (1.93 m).
  
Team Performances

Women – Finger Lakes 4X100 Meter Relay team, made up of Brooks, Jessica Kaiser (Ovid, NY), Tilton, and Kathryn Zebrowski (Dundee, NY), came in ninth place with an NJCAA qualifying time of 54.66.

Men - Finger Lakes 4X100 Meter Relay team, made up of Samuel Beckwith (Ovid, NY), Shuler, Superak, and Jeremy Westerfield (Penn Yan, NY), placed sixth by recording its fastest time of the season (time of 44.54).

Upcoming Meet – Finger Lakes (men and women) next meet, which will be a two-day event, will take place on Friday (4/20) and Saturday (4/21) when they travel to SUNY Cortland to participate in the Cortland Invitational. Friday's event is slated to start at 3:00 pm. The start of Saturday's event is still to be announced.
