Volleyball – FLCC Led by a Barrage of Players in Home Win over Cayuga

CANANDAIGUA – In their most recent match, the Lady Lakers took a 3-1 victory over Cayuga CC on their own hardwood on Wednesday (9/19).

In their fourth home contest of the season, Finger Lakes (5-11, 3-1 MSAC) earned its third conference victory of 2012 in a rather triumphant fashion. Taking the best-of-five series in four games, the Lady Lakers played a well-balanced match all evening long. In the 3-1 win, Finger Lakes took down the Lady Spartans by scores of – 25-12, 17-25, 25-15, and 25-14.

The Lady Lakers masterful victory consisted of so many great individual performances. Finger Lakes received contributions from Jordan Smith (outside hitter), Courtney Bradish (outside hitter/setter), Brittany Havens (middle hitter), Conley Gayton (setter), Sierra Graham (middle hitter), and Julianna Marcello (libero).

The fabulous outside hitter Smith paved the way for the home team with 20 kills and 17 digs. She had company in the digs department as teammate Bradish joined her with 17 digs of her own. Bradish, a freshman, also landed 5 aces in the conference matchup.

The sophomore Havens converted on 9 kills and 3 aces while Gayton, an excellent setter, doled out 38 assists for the Lady Lakers.  

Graham and Marcello each chipped in with solid showings. Graham came up with 6 kills and 3 blocks while Marcello pitched in with 11 digs.  

The Lady Lakers will return to action tomorrow (9/22) for a slew of matches – which will all be held at Erie CC. In the opening match, they will take on #7 nationally ranked Niagara County CC at 9:00 a.m. Following the showdown with Niagara; Finger Lakes will pair off with Jamestown CC at 12:30 p.m. The Lady Lakers will conclude the day by playing the hosts of the POD – Erie – at 2:00 p.m.
