Volleyball – Lady Lakers Drop Weekend Matches at Erie POD

BUFFALO, NY. – The Lady Lakers traveled to Erie CC over this past weekend (on Saturday, 9/22) to partake in a series of matches against the likes of Niagara County CC, Jamestown CC, and Erie CC. All three matches were a best-of-five series.

In the opening match against #7 nationally ranked Niagara, Finger Lakes (5-14, 3-1 MSAC) fell – 18-25, 10-25, and 21-25.

In the following matchup, which consisted of the Lady Lakers taking on Jamestown, Finger Lakes lost in 4 games by scores of – 18-25, 25-20, 17-25, and 12-25.

In the day's final match for the Lady Lakers, they were victims of defeat to the hosts Erie – 25-17, 19-25, 12-25, and 20-25.

All three opponents displayed great challenges for Finger Lakes throughout the day – as they were all considered solid in nature.

In the losing effort in the opener, the Lady Lakers were led by the play of Jordan Smith (outside hitter) and Conley Gayton (setter). Smith was credited with 9 kills in the meeting with Niagara while Gayton chipped in with 15 assists and 6 digs.

In the contest with Jamestown, Smith and Gayton made the highlight again despite falling – and were joined by teammates Courtney Bradish (outside hitter/setter) and Julianna Marcello (libero). Smith finished all 4 games with a total of 14 kills, 3 aces, and 20 digs. Bradish accounted for 10 kills while Gayton poured in 33 assists. In addition, Marcello was liable for 19 digs.

In the finale against Erie, Smith (15 kills), Gayton (32 assists), Bradish (27 digs), and Marcello (24 digs), each contributed in the match with their efforts respectively.

Next up for the Lady Lakers will be Corning CC (conference member). Finger Lakes will take on the Lady Red Barons tomorrow at home beginning at 6:00 p.m.
