Volleyball – FLCC Turns in 2-1 Record at Weekend Home Pod

CANANDAIGUA – The Lady Lakers have been playing some exciting volleyball as of late. Over the weekend amidst their own hardwood at Putt Moore Court, Finger Lakes (8-15, 4-1 MSAC) took a pair of victories in their three Saturday (9/29) matches.

In the opening match, the Lady Lakers swept SUNY Delhi by taking three straight games in the best-of-five series – 25-22, 25-20, and 25-23. In their second pairing of the day, which came against Herkimer County CC, FLCC fell – 19-25, 25-20, 17-25, and 31-33. The Lady Lakers would rebound in their final match of the Pod by taking down Mohawk Valley CC – 19-25, 25-23, 25-20, and 25-16.

In the opening sweep of Delhi, Finger Lakes was led by the play of Jordan Smith, Conley Gayton, and Julianna Marcello. Smith, who was named Student-Athlete of the Week at FLCC last week, came up with 12 kills and 14 digs in the win. Gayton, 28 assists, and Marcello, 21 digs, both contributed in the match.

In the match two loss, Smith led the highlight reel yet again for the Lady Lakers – as this time she posted 18 kills and 27 digs. Danielle Joseph also reached double figures in kills for Finger Lakes with 14. Gayton doled out 38 assists while Marcello came up with 21 digs in the 4 games.

In Finger Lakes final meeting of the day, they received solid performances out of Smith, Brittany Havens, Gayton, Courtney Bradish, and Marcello. Smith finished the match with 15 kills and 14 digs. Havens produced 10 kills and a pair of blocks in the victory while Gayton, 32 assists, and Marcello, 12 digs, each added marquee showings.

The Lady Lakers, who played all three matches with a great deal of heart and effort, will look to build upon Saturday's performances in their next match, which is slated for tomorrow when they travel to Batavia, NY to take on Genesee CC. That showdown is scheduled to get underway at 6:00 p.m.
