Julie Brooks, Women’s Track and Field
Brooks, a freshman out of Holley, NY in 2012, makes her way into the Student-Athlete Spotlight this week as a token for the outstanding season that she assembled during the spring. Known for her jumping abilities, the athletic Brooks was a force in the women’s high, long and triple jump categories this past season.
The Lady Laker began her 2012 campaign with a solid showing in Finger Lakes first meet of the season on 4/3 at Alfred State College. At this meet, Brooks was accountable for a first place title in the high jump, where she leaped to an NJCAA qualifying distance of 1.47 meters. In addition, she placed 4th and 6th in the long and triple jump categories respectively.
After competing at Alfred State, Brooks turned her attention to the Rochester City Classic on 4/7, where she took 2nd and 5th in the high (1.52 meters) and triple jumps (9.57 meters – NJCAA qualifying distance) respectively.
Brooks continued her success in the city of Rochester a week later on 4/14 when she took her jumping abilities to the University of Rochester, where she competed in the U of R Invitational. At the U of R Invitational, her afternoon was highlighted by a 4th place 1.48 meter leap in the high jump.
Brooks stellar season continued two weeks later in the NJCAA Region III Championships, which were held at SUNY Delhi on 4/27 and 4/28. During the three-day meet, the freshman topped the top 5 in each of the long, triple, and high jump categories. She finished 4th in both the long (4.43 meters) and triple jumps (9.34 meters), and came in 5th in the high jump (1.47 meters).
Brooks concluded her first year wearing a Finger Lakes tank top by finishing strong at the NJCAA Division III Nationals, which took place on the campus of Alfred State from 5/3 – 5/5. During the three-day meet, she took 14th in the long jump (4.42 meters) on day one and 3rd in the high jump (1.55 meters) on day three.
