Lakers Head to Corning C.C. with Postseason Hopes Alive
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. -- The Finger Lakes Community College baseball team travels to Corning, N.Y. tomorrow with their postseason aspirations alive to square off with Corning Community College. The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2p.m.
The Lakers and the Red Barons have met twice previously this season. On April 14, the Lakers took a pair of games from the Red Barons, 10-0 and 9-4, respectively. The nineteen runs scored tied the team's second-highest mark in a single doubleheader this season.
Since April 27, the Lakers have won ten games, while losing just four games. The team currently stands at 21 wins and 26 losses. Sophomore Nate Eastman leads the team with a .390 batting average and 27 runs batted in. Dakota Stackhouse leads the Lakers with five victories and twelve appearances on the mound.
Corning Community College enters tomorrow's play with a record of one win and 31 losses. The Red Barons's lone win came over Tompkins Cortland Community College on April 18. Zack LeBarron leads Corning Community College with a .342 average. Gordie Austin leads the team with a 4.05 earned run average on the mound.
The doubleheader could catapult the Lakers into sub-regional play. The Lakers trail Jamestown Community College by mere percentage points for the fourth and final postseason spot in the Western Division. In order to pass the Jayhawks, Finger Lakes Community College needs to take take both games from Corning Community College and then have Alfred State College defeat Jamestown Community College in a continued game.
