HERKIMER, N.Y. -- Administrative Intern Alex Pagliano is in Herkimer, N.Y. with the Finger Lakes Community College baseball team. Here are his observations:
(Friday) 11:47a.m.: From President Risser RT @BarbRisser Congrats to the FLCC baseball team! Headed to NJCAA Regionals at Herkimer CC starting noon tomorrow.
(Saturday) 11:29a.m.: The rain has returned here at Generals Field. The mound is covered, but home plate is holding up well with some fresh dirt.
11:50a.m.: Kevin Carpentier will start on the mound for Finger Lakes Community College. Here's the batting order for the Lakers (with position in parentheses): 1. Joey Simmons (8), 2. Kyle Consolie (9), 3. Dylan Catlin (DH), 4. Nate Eastman (3), 5. Troy Loparco (5), 6. Branden Rhodes (2), 7. Corey Galletta (4), 8. Hunter Hey (6), and 9. Aaron Freida (7).
11:50a.m.: Here's the Herkimer County Community College batting order. Kyle Garrison is on the mound for the #Generals.
11:55a.m.: The first game has been pushed back. It is now expected to start at 12:15p.m.
12:22p.m.: We're underway.
12:25p.m.: Lead-off double for Joey Simmons. Consolie sacrifices him over to third. Catlin plates him with an RBI single, and the #Lakers lead 1-0.
12:27p.m.: After Eastman gets on with a fielder's choice, Loparco triples him home with two away. #Lakers lead 2-0.
12:29p.m: And Loparco scores on a past ball. The #Lakers lead 3-0 headed to the bottom half of the first inning. First Inning Stats
12:37p.m.: Carpentier hits a batter, but gets two groundouts and a pop out to Freida to leave the Generals scoreless in the first. #Lakers lead 3-0
12:43p.m.: Galletta and Hey are retired consecutively. Freida walks, but is thrown out stealing second with Simmons at the plate.
12:46p.m.: Consecutive doubles have the #Generals on the board. The #Lakers lead 3-1 in the bottom half of the second inning.
12:51p.m.: Baker singles home Smith, and the #Generals have cut the deficit to 3-2. We're headed to the top of the third inning now.
12:57p.m.: Simmons singles and steals second. Consolie hits a ball in between the SS/LF area, and winds up on second. Simmons on third, no out.
1:00p.m.: The #Lakers lead 4-2 headed into the bottom half of the third. Here's how the top half unfolded: Stats
1:06p.m.: Despite an error, Carpentier faces four batters in the bottom half and holds the #Generals scoreless. To the top of the fourth, #Lakers 4-2.
1:10p.m.: Loparco reaches on an errant third strike, and steals second. Rhodes strikes out. Galletta singles over Loparco to third with one out.
1:12p.m.: Hey hits a sacrifice fly to the right fielder to plate Loparco. Freida gets on board with an error by the third baseman. Two out.
1:15p.m.: Simmons walks, but Consolie flies out to deep center with the bases loaded to end the threat. #Lakers lead 5-2 headed to the bottom half.
1:30p.m.: The #Generals get four in the bottom half of the fourth and now lead 6-5. Here's how it unfolded: Scoring
1:36p.m.: Reliever Mike DeCarlo retires the side in order for Herkimer C.C.C. in the top of the fifth inning. #Generals lead 6-5 through 4.5 innings.
1:45p.m.: The #Generals get another two runs in the bottom half of the fifth. They now lead 8-6 headed to the top of the sixth.
1:50p.m.: Hey singles home Rhodes, and the #Lakers trail 8-7. Galletta on second, Hey on first with Freida up, no out.
1:54p.m.: 8-6, rather.
1:56p.m.: Consolie grounds out to first with runners on second and third to end the inning. #Lakers trail Herkimer C.C.C. 8-6 through 5.5 innings.
1:59p.m.: Carpentier retires the #Generals in order on just five pitches. Heading to the top of the seventh, the #Lakers trail 8-6.
2:05p.m.: DeCarlo walks Loparco, but gets a groundout, punch out, and a fly out to preserve the #Generals 8-6 lead. To the bottom half we go:
2:15p.m.: Carpentier retires the first two batters with just seven pitches, but consecutive errors combined with a hit by pitch spelled trouble.
2:16p.m.: Watson came up with the bases loaded and tripled home three runs. Herkimer C.C.C leads 11-6 through seven innings.
2:26p.m.: Despite two punch outs, Simmons plates Galletta, who walked, to cut the deficit to 11-7. Simmons is stranded as Consolie strikes out.
2:26p.m.: We head to the bottom half of the eighth inning. Dakota Stackhouse now on the mound for the #Lakers.
2:33p.m.: Stackhouse retires the side in order in the bottom half of the eighth inning. #Lakers with one last shot here in the top half; trail 11-7.
2:38p.m.: Off to a good start -- first two runners are aboard.
2:41p.m.: Two run double by Rhodes puts the #Lakers within two, 11-9.
2:43p.m.: Galletta walks and the tying run is aboard. Rhodes is at third, and Petrantoni comes into PH for Hey. Herkimer calls the bullpen. One out.
2:46p.m.: Rob Hardy strikes out Petrantoni, and the #Lakers are down to their final out with Freida up.
2:47p.m.: Hardy strikes him out. FINAL: Herkimer C.C.C. 11, Finger Lakes C.C. 9. Game two to begin at 3:10p.m.
2:52p.m.: The second game lineup for the #Lakers. Brandon Anderson on the mound looking to force game three tomorrow.

3:55p.m.: Freida strikes out with runners on second and third base to end the top half of the second inning. The #Lakers trail 3-0.
4:01p.m.: Anderson retires the side in order for the #Lakers in the bottom half. To the top of the third, Herkimer C.C.C. leads 3-0.
4:09p.m.: Eastman rolls over to the second baseman for the third out stranding Consolie at third. #Generals lead 3-0 after two and a half innings.
4:17p.m.: Stevener scores two on a double with one away in the bottom half. The #Generals now lead 5-0.
4:19p.m.: And in the next three pitches, Anderson gets two pop outs to end the third inning. The #Generals lead 5-0.
4:24p.m.: Aaron Freida comes up with the bases loaded with one away and does what he does well -- getting hit by pitches. He leads the NJCAA in HBP.
4:24p.m.: But the hurt leads to a run batted in -- the #Lakers now trail 5-1 and they are back around at the top of the order with Joey Simmons up.
4:30p.m.: Simmons strikes out and Consolie grounds out to third base to end the top half of the fourth inning. The #Lakers trail 5-1.
4:40p.m.: The #Generals get two runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning on two hits and a sacrifice fly. Herkimer C.C.C. leads 7-1.
4:45p.m.: With two outs in the top of the fifth, Loparco and Rhodes each reached base. Galletta struck out looking to strand them.
4:45p.m.: Trailing 7-1 entering the bottom half of the fifth inning, the #Lakers turn to Dakota Stackhouse on the mound.
4:49p.m.: Stackhouse retires the side in order on six pitches. He has retired all six batters that he has faced today on the mound.
4:59p.m.: After Burch retired Hey and Freida, Simmons and Consolie reach on infield singles in consecutive at-bats. Catlin strands them on strikes.
5:02p.m.: Stackhouse continues to impress, retiring his seventh, eighth, and ninth consecutive batters on just five pitches.
5:02p.m.: To the top of the seventh inning we go, the #Generals lead the #Lakers 7-1.
5:10p.m.: After Eastman strikes out, Loparco triples. But with one out, the #Lakers are unable to drive him in. We head to the bottom half down six.
5:13p.m.: Stackhouse retires the side in the bottom half of the seventh on five pitches. He's retired all 12 batters that he has faced today.
5:13p.m.: To the top of the eighth inning, the #Generals lead the #Lakers 7-1.
5:19p.m.: The #Lakers strand one in the top half of the eighth inning. The #Generals are just three outs away from the sweep.
5:27p.m.: The #Generals tack on another run in the bottom half of the eighth inning and lead Finger Lakes Community College 8-1.
5:28p.m.: Catlin grounds out. Eastman strikes out. And the #Lakers are down to their last out.
5:31p.m.: Loparco grounds out to the pitcher, and there's the game and series. Herkimer C.C.C. takes the second game 8-1, and the series 2-0.
