Lakers Extend Winning Streak to Three Games

CANANDAIGUA, NY. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lakers (9-14) extended their winning streak to three games today by taking down Jefferson Community College at home, 82-77. The Lakers built a 44-29 halftime lead behind the hot shooting hand of freshman guard Nic Cesar (Brooklyn, NY). Cesar accounted for 4 three-point field goals in the first half on route to a 19-point afternoon. Jefferson came out in attack mode offensively in the second half, outscoring FLCC 48-38, but failed to complete the comeback after the Lakers hit clutch shot after clutch shot in the remaining minutes of the game.

Leading 76-73 and with the ball, Lakers forward (sophomore) Cody Sarkis (Greece, NY) hit a clutch three-point field goal with less than a minute remaining on the game clock  to extend the lead to 79-73. Sarkis finished the game with 7 points and the Lakers went on to close out Jefferson, solidifying their longest winning streak of the 2011-12 season thus far.

Today's game featured a balanced scoring attack by FLCC. Freshman guard Nick Wicks (Webster, NY) shared team-high scoring honors with Cesar by pouring in 19 points. Freshman forward Sean Carbonell (Irondequoit, NY) was the third Laker to reach double figures in scoring, finishing the game with 15 points.

Sophomore guard Tyron Wilcox (Rochester, NY) contributed to the offense with 9 points. Freshman guard Richard De La Cruz (Washington Heights, NY) added 8 points.

Aside from scoring, the Lakers did an exceptional job of distributing the basketball today. Wicks, Carbonell, Wilcox, Sarkis, and freshman guard Kelvin Munoz (Washington Heights, NY) each shared team-high honors in assists (recording 3 each).

Carbonell and Wilcox also shared team-high honors in rebounding (recording 4 each).

Jabriel Blue (10th in scoring in the nation) paced Jefferson with 28 points and 10 rebounds.
