Lakers Cruise Past Medaille College JV, Have Now Won Four Straight
CANANDAIGUA – With ten members of their roster reaching the scoring column on Saturday, the Lakers put forth a 99-63 home victory over the Medaille College JV Mavericks – improving their 2012-13 record to 6-5. The win was their fourth consecutive.
Leading the way in the points department for Finger Lakes CC was Martin Young. The freshman forward, on 8-12 shooting, scored a game-high 19 points in the afternoon affair.
Young was one of four Lakers who scored in double figures. Joining him in the double-digit scoring department were his teammates – Will Arberry, Richard De La Cruz, and Kaleem Edwards.
Arberry registered 17 points on a day where he was a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line. In addition, the Milwaukee, WI native grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with his offense.
De La Cruz was the product of a 15-point game yesterday. His point total came off a 6-9 effort from the field. On the season, De La Cruz has now scored in double figures in 9 of Finger Lakes 11 games.
Edwards, on 5-9 shooting, rounded out the double-digit scoring column for the Lakers by dropping in 10 points in the matinee.
The Lakers earned the W behind a solid team shooting effort. In the 40-minute contest, Finger Lakes shot 49% from the field.
Despite the loss, the Mavericks also saw 10 of their players reach the scoring column. They too, also boasted 4 double-digit scorers.
Leading the visitors in scoring was Anthony Colquitt. The starter scored 14 points of a 5-11 shooting day from the court.
Adding a trio of 11-point games' for the Mavericks were Nakia Pringle, Ken McFadden, and Devin Chevanne.
Medaille College JV, as a team, scored 23 first half and 40 second half points. Collectively, the Mavericks shot 36% from the field.
Finger Lakes 99 points came with 43 first half points followed by a 56-point second half.
The Lakers, in addition to their four double-digit scorers, received solid offensive contributions out of Dominique Higgins, Kelvin Munoz, Trevor Sanders, and Wayne Barnes.
Higgins, to along with 4 assists and 3 steals (team-high), scored 9 points while Munoz, Sanders, and Barnes, each poured in 8-point efforts respectively.
Additionally, Munoz, on a day where he shot 100% from the field (where he was 4-4), handed out a game-high 5 assists.
The win moved Finger Lakes home record to 5-3. The team will now encounter a month long break away from the game of basketball. The Lakers will return to the court on 1/8/13 where they will take on conference foes Tompkins Cortland CC on the road. That game, which is slated to start at 7:00 p.m., will signal the start of Finger Lakes conference schedule.
