Lakers Fall to Nationally Ranked SUNY Delhi, 61-54

CANANDAIGUA – The FLCC Lakers, in their latest game, paired off with the nation's tenth ranked team this afternoon in the SUNY Delhi Broncos.

The contest, which took place at the home of the Lakers, was a back and forth battle between both squads. On a day where both teams combined to rack up 50 personal fouls, it would be the Broncos who would come out victorious. Delhi, having committed 21 of those 50 personal fouls, notched a 61-54 win.

The Lakers, despite falling, hung in the game in both half's. Delhi, which was led by Stefan Bock's team-high 14 points, outscored FLCC in the first and second half's. The Broncos controlled the halftime score – which read 26-21. They then took half number two by a difference of 35-33.

Neither team shot the ball particularly well on Sunday – both from the field and from the free throw line. The Lakers, collectively, shot 35% from the field and just 56% from the free throw line. Delhi, in 40 minutes worth of basketball, shot 39% from the hardwood and 66% from the charity stripe.

The Broncos tallied the win on a day where they committed an astounding 27 turnovers. The Lakers, as a unit, coughed up the ball 18 times.

In terms of rebounding, Delhi, as a team, controlled the glass by a count of 40-29. Leading the rebounding department in today's meeting was Broncos forward Quayshaun Mitchell. Playing in 26 minutes, he finished the game with 10 rebounds.

Will Arberry and his game-high 16 points led the Lakers. In 29 minutes, the freshman forward shot 5-11 from the court and was 6-8 from the free throw line. Arberry, in addition to his game-high 16 points, pulled down a team-high 6 rebounds.

Following Arberry with a pair of 9-point showings for the Lakers were Richard De La Cruz and Dominique Higgins.

Higgins added to his 9 points a game-high 4 assists via the point guard position. Furthermore, he gathered a game-high 7 steals all while recording 5 rebounds.

Joining Higgins with 5 rebounds apiece for Finger Lakes were Kaleem Edwards and Sean Carbonell.

Martin Young, coming off of the bench for the Lakers, chipped in with 8 points for the hosts in the losing effort.

For Delhi, Hakeem Grant's 10 points followed Bock's team-best 14 points. Grant, to go along with his scoring, supplied the Broncos with a team-high 4 steals off of the bench.

Contributing a pair of 9-point games for Delhi were Sean Scott and Ibrahima Toure.

Sunday's game marked the end of a three-game home stand for the Lakers. Over that stretch, they went 2-1. They will now return to conference play in their next contest. Finger Lakes will hit the hardwood again this Thursday (1/17) when it's slated to travel to Corning, NY where it will take on MSAC foes Corning CC. That meeting is set to get underway at 7:00 p.m.
