Finger Lakes Picks Up Second Consecutive Conference Road Win
WATERTOWN, NY. – The Lakers – behind Will Arberry's team-high 14 points – picked up their second consecutive conference road win on Saturday by taking down Jefferson CC – 58-42. Finger Lakes, who is now 7-2 in the MSAC, swept its regular season series with the Cannoneers. The Lakers are now 6-1 in their last 7 games. Four of those six wins have come on the road.
The Lakers – in the 40-minute contest – built a 26-15 double-digit halftime lead. 32 second half points followed their 26 first half points. Jefferson – in the final half – registered 27 points as a team.
Arberry – who shot the ball at a high percentage – was 5-9 from the field in 29 minutes. The Lakers – who attempted 56 shots as a squad – finished the game 41% from the floor. Arberry – who also added a game-high 5 steals in the afternoon meeting – was followed in the shooting department by his teammate Ben Wilburn – who was 5-7 from the floor.
Wilburn – who came off of the bench – scored 13 points (season-high) in 15 minutes for the Lakers. The sophomore guard dropped in a game-high 3 three pointers in the win. On the day – he was 3-5 from three.
Forward Richard De La Cruz contributed 8 points while Dominique Higgins and Kaleem Edwards each chipped in with 7 points apiece for Finger Lakes. Higgins paced the Lakers in the passing department with his game-high 7 assists. In addition, the freshman guard registered 4 of the Lakers 17 steals.
Finger Lakes – in the rebounding department – was led by Sean Carbonell's 10 boards. Arberry and Edwards added 6 rebounds and 5 rebounds apiece respectively.
Jefferson – in a losing effort – registered three double-digit scorers. Derrick Williams and his game-high 16 points paced the hosts. Williams – who was 7-16 from the court – finished the game with a double-double by adding a team-best 10 rebounds to go along with his scoring.
Following Williams in the point's column with a pair of 10-point performances for the Cannoneers were Kenneth Thomas and Ryan Tomlin. Both Williams and Tomlin's offensive efforts were had off of the bench. Despite falling – Jefferson outscored the Lakers bench – 28-16.
The Cannoneers – as a team – shot 31% from the hardwood. The Lakers limited Jefferson to just 42 points by playing stout defense. Finger Lakes – in both half's – combined to force 26 Jefferson turnovers. The 42 points allowed by the Lakers was the lowest amount of points they have allowed in a single game this season.
Finger Lakes will return to the court on Saturday (2/9) for a home meeting with conference foes Corning CC. The Lakers and Red Barons are set to tip off at 3:00 p.m.
