Lakers End Regular Season with 66-33 Win Over SUNY Adirondack

CANANDAIGUA – In today's pairing between the host Finger Lakes CC Lakers and the SUNY Adirondack Timberwolves – it would be the home team who would come out victorious. Finger Lakes – who won convincingly by a score of 66-33 on its own court this afternoon – scored 41 second half points as a team. The Timberwolves – despite falling – battled the Lakers in the first half on the scoreboard.

Finger Lakes – behind 38 percent shooting in the first half – held a 25-20 halftime lead in Sunday's game. SUNY Adirondack – who trailed 17-8 in the first half – crawled back into the contest before taking a 20-19 lead with 2:51 to go before halftime. After trailing by one – the Lakers would go on an offensive run the remainder of the game.

Prior to the closure of the first half – Finger Lakes benefited from a pair of three-point buckets – which separately came off of the shooting hands of Richard De La Cruz and Trevor Sanders respectively. Their three's are what gave the Lakers their five-point halftime lead.

Finger Lakes – in the final half – would shoot 50 percent from the field. In the first 9 minutes and 43 seconds of the second half – the Lakers would outscore the Timberwolves – 20-5. Leading 45-25 with 10:17 remaining in the game – Finger Lakes would then go on to outscore SUNY Adirondack – 21-8 the remainder of the way.

In the final regular season game of 2012-13 – the Lakers – who received scoring efforts out of 9 of their players – were led offensively by De La Cruz's game-high 15 points. De La Cruz was followed by the solid bench performance of teammate Kelvin Munoz. The sophomore – in 25 minutes off of the pine – scored 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.

Kaleem Edwards and Sanders each supplied Finger Lakes with 9 points apiece. Sanders – who made a game-high 3 three-pointers – registered his stats in a reserve role. Joining Munoz and Sanders with a solid afternoon off of the bench for the Lakers was center Nate Miller. Giving the home team 22 minutes of his time – Miller produced 7 points and 8 rebounds. Both Miller and Munoz shared team-high honors in rebounding.

Finger Lakes earned the win behind a balanced scoring attack. The Lakers starters delivered 36 points while their bench players contributed 30 points this afternoon at Putt Moore Court.

The Timberwolves – in a losing effort – were led in the scoring column by John Budwick and his 10 points. The 6-foot-8-inch sophomore – in 21 minutes – was 5-8 from the hardwood. In addition to his scoring – Budwick recorded a game-high 3 blocks.

Following Budwick with a pair of 7-point showings for SUNY Adirondack were Brett Smith and Alex Hladik. Chipping in with a game-high 9 rebounds off of the bench for the Timberwolves was Joseph Coore.

Finger Lakes will now resume its season in postseason play. The Lakers – in their next game – will host Jefferson CC this Tuesday (2/19) in the opening round of the 2012-13 MSAC playoffs. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m. Finger Lakes will enter play seeded second while Jefferson will take the court wearing a seven seed. The winner of Tuesday's contest will then advance onto the semi-finals – which are scheduled to take place this Friday (2/22). On that day – the winner of the #3 Cayuga CC/#6 Broome CC game (which is scheduled to take place this Tuesday) – will take on either Finger Lakes or Jefferson. The site of this year's semi-finals will be Tompkins Cortland CC.
