Women’s Basketball – FLCC Drops Pair of Close Games over the Weekend
DELHI, NY. – Finger Lakes (0-3), who traveled to the confines of SUNY Delhi over the weekend – competed in the 2012 SUNY Delhi Tournament on Saturday and Sunday – in what were its second and third contests away from Putt Moore Court thus far this season.
On day one of the tournament, the Lady Lakers went head-to-head with the hosts – the SUNY Delhi Lady Broncos. In that meeting, FLCC dropped a close game – a game where they trailed in the first half prior to making a run at the Lady Broncos in the second half – 60-55.
In a consolation game on Sunday, Finger Lakes became victims of defeat for the third consecutive time in the early season as it fell to the Sullivan County CC Lady Generals – 54-50. With the loss, the Lady Lakers have now dropped each of the three games that they have played in so far this season by a combined twelve points.
SUNY Delhi Game – In the opener of the tourney, the Lady Lakers were paced by Kelli McCauley and her game-high 17 points. Each of the guards' five field goals came from beyond the ark where she went 5 for 12 on the afternoon.
Adding another double digit scoring day in the meeting with the Lady Broncos was FLCC guard Casi Strait. The second-year player out of Dundee, NY, racked up 13 points and in addition pulled down 8 rebounds.
FLCC Forward Britany Monpere pitched in with her second consecutive 9-point game.
Forward Julie Brooks led the rebounding category for FLCC with her 9 boards. Guard Julia Pagano recorded a team-high 5 assists for the Lady Lakers in the losing effort.
On the winning end of the court, the Lady Broncos saw three of their players reach double figures in scoring. Leading the team with her 13 points was Jackie Bailey. Bailey, who came ever so close to recording a triple-double, also came up with 9 rebounds and 8 assists to go along with her points.
Registering 12 points and 10 points respectively for SUNY Delhi were Yomaris Soto and Tanya Barnes.
Between the two teams, Delhi shot 34% from the field while FLCC made good on 29% of its shots.
Sullivan County CC Game – In their final game of the tournament, the Lady Lakers were led yet again by the services of McCauley in the scoring department. McCauley followed her 17-point effort against Delhi with a 20-point day (where she was 4 for 8 from three-point land) against Sullivan. To go along with her solid performance in the scoring department, McCauley tacked on 5 rebounds and four steals in the matinee.
Monpere and Strait backed McCauley's showing with double-digit scoring contests of their own. Monpere notched a total of 15 points while Strait matched her total from a game ago with another 13-point showing. On top of her 13 points, Strait also pulled down 5 rebounds.
Julia Pagano added 4 assists and 6 steals for FLCC.
The Lady Lakers, in their next game, which is scheduled for tomorrow, will travel to Sanborn, NY where they will take on Niagara County CC at 5:30 p.m.
