Women’s Basketball – Lady Lakers Fall to Mohawk Valley in Home Opener
CANANDAIGUA – In a home meeting last night with the nation's eighth ranked team in the Mohawk Valley CC Lady Hawks, the Lady Lakers (1-4) became victims of defeat for the fourth time this season – falling – 79-43.
With the victory, the Lady Hawks, who are undefeated at 4-0, have looked dominate in each of their wins thus far this season. They have collected each of their four victories by a winning margin of at least 27 points.
Thursday's game produced four double-digit scorers from Mohawk's side. Leading the charge for the visitors with a game-high 18 points was freshman guard Stevie Ray.
In addition to Ray's scoring night, Shaniece Brown (17 points), Jhontay Giles (14 points), and Karrin Walker (10 points), each added to the double-digit scoring column for the Lady Hawks by putting up solid offensive performances of their own.
In addition to her 17 points, Brown dished out a game-high 8 assists.
The game, which marked the first home contest of the 2012-13 season for the Lady Lakers, consisted of FLCC shooting .375% from the field. The visiting Lady Hawks, on the other hand, put the ball in FLCC's net at a rate of .529% on Thursday.
The Lady Hawks 79 points came with a 37-21-halftime lead. Mohawk, continuing its scoring ways in the second half, outscored the Lady Lakers in the games' final 20 minutes – 42-22.
FLCC, in the losing effort, received a team-high 15 points from sophomore guard Casi Strait.
Forward Julie Brooks supplied the hosts with 7 points while Lady Lakers guard Kelli McCauley tacked on a 6-point effort.
FLCC, as part of a four-game home stand, will play in its second consecutive contest this Sunday at Putt Moore Court when it takes on Hudson Valley CC at 1:00 p.m.
