Lady Lakers Pick Up Second Consecutive Conference Victory

CANANDAIGUA – The Lady Lakers picked up their second conference win in a row last night by taking down the Broome CC Lady Hornets amidst their home court – 63-40. The win moved Finger Lakes MSAC record to 2-0. Overall, they stand at 5-9 on the 2012-13 season.

How did Finger Lakes add Thursday's contest into its win column? Simple. It put forth a rounded scoring effort on offense in addition to a solid showing on defense.

Shooting guard Casi Strait paved the way offensively for the hosts as she poured in a game-high 17 points on the night in addition to a team-high 10 rebounds.

Joining Strait in the double-digit scoring column was teammate Britany Monpere. The forward provided the Lady Lakers with 11 points in 31 minutes worth of playtime. Furthermore, Monpere notched 7 rebounds, passed out 4 assists, and grabbed a hold of a game-high 6 steals all while recording a game-high 3 blocks in the MSAC pairing.

Point guard Julia Pagano delivered a rounded game on the court for Finger Lakes. In 29 minutes, she registered 8 points, 8 assists (game-high), 7 rebounds, and 5 steals.

In the 40-minute affair, the Lady Lakers scored 32 first half and 31 second half points. Broome came up with 17 first half and 23 second half points. On the night, Finger Lakes shot 35% from the field versus Broome's 23%.

The Lady Hornets, despite the loss, showed several bright spots on the hardwood. As a team, they shot 88% from the free throw line all while tallying 45 rebounds, 9 steals, and 6 blocks.

The Lady Lakers, as a squad, recorded 44 rebounds, 16 steals, and 6 blocks. In addition, they combined to shell out 16 assists. Finger Lakes, most notably, squandered the ball just 13 times. Broome, as a unit, committed 24 turnovers.

Chipping in with 7 points off of the bench for the Lady Lakers was Alexis Maiorano. In the 17 minutes that she played, the freshman shot 3-4 from the field.

Contributing 9 rebounds for Finger Lakes was forward Jordan Smith.

Leading the way for Broome with a pair of 10-point showings were Jennifer Celiberti and Emily McElwain. Adding a game-high 12 rebounds for the Lady Hornets was Randi Conway.

Finger Lakes will now turn its attention to its next opponent – another MSAC member – Jefferson CC. The Lady Lakers will host Jefferson tomorrow at Putt Moore Court starting at 1:00 p.m.
