FLCC Improves its Conference Record to 7-1 with Road Win over Broome

BINGHAMTON, NY. – The Lady Lakers, behind Casi Strait's game-high 23 points, secured a 64-52 conference road win over Broome CC on Wednesday night. Finger Lakes CC, with the victory, swept its regular season series with the Lady Hornets in 2012-13. The Lady Lakers now stand at 11-10 overall and are 7-1 in the MSAC. In its last 10 games, Finger Lakes is 8-2.

Following Strait in the scoring column for the Lady Lakers with 14 points was point guard Julia Pagano. The sophomore, on a night where she was 6-7 from the floor, added 5 assists (game-high), 6 rebounds, and 4 steals (game-high) in the road contest.

Contributing a pair of 9-point performances for Finger Lakes were Britany Monpere and Casey Dean. Monpere, in addition to her offense, pulled down a team-high 7 rebounds on the night.

Despite the outcome being in favor of the Lady Lakers – the Lady Hornets played with great tenacity. On the night, Broome registered four double-digit scorers. The hosts were led offensively by Kelcie Marshall's 15 points. Marshall, who was 6-14 from the hardwood, was followed by Megan Mullins 12-point effort.

Chipping in with 11-point and 10-point games for the Lady Hornets were Jennifer Celiberti and Megan Pipher. Both Celiberti and Pipher each added 12 rebounds (sharing game-high honors) apiece to go along with their scoring.

The Lady Lakers earned the 12-point win behind 33 first half and 31 second half points. Broome, in each half, scored 26 points as a team.

Finger Lakes, as a unit, shot 38% from the field while the Lady Hornets, collectively, shot 40%.

The Lady Lakers did an excellent job of holding onto the ball on Wednesday. In 40 minutes worth of basketball, they committed just 8 turnovers. Broome, on the night, turned the ball over 20 times.

A majority of the scoring between both teams came via their starting lineups. Finger Lakes, who fielded four reserves on the night, scored 9 bench points – each of which came via Dean's shooting hand. Broome, who played just seven players on the night, received each of its 52 points via its starters.

The Lady Lakers, in their next game, will travel to Watertown, NY, where they will take on Jefferson CC this Saturday (2/2). Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
