Lady Lakers Continue Their Winning Ways by Downing Genesee, 76-68

BATAVIA, NY. – The Lady Lakers – on a night where they received a game, season, and career-high 35 points out of shooting guard Casi Strait – picked up their 10th win in 11 games by defeating the Genesee CC Lady Cougars on the road – 76-68. Finger Lakes – who came into the game playing inspired basketball – improved its 2012-13 record to 13-10 with the victory.

The Lady Lakers – on a night where they shot 39% from the field as a team – were led in the shooting department by Strait and her 13-20 showing from the floor. Her 65% night from the field was followed by a 9-12 effort from the free throw line.

Finger Lakes opened up the game with a 39-31 first half lead at intermission. Genesee – despite trailing when the second half began – climbed its way back into the contest early in the final half by going on a 6-0 run to cut the Lady Lakers lead to 39-37.

After cutting the lead to 39-37 – the Lady Cougars run was responded to by the Lady Lakers. Finger Lakes – after seeing its lead dwindle to two points – went on to build a double-digit lead before winning by an 8-point margin. In the second half – Finger Lakes and Genesee both tallied 37 points apiece.  

On the Lady Lakers side – Strait was joined in the double-digit scoring column by her teammates – Kelli McCauley and Kelly Broderick. Both guards scored 10 points in the road game. McCauley – in addition to her scoring – administered a game-high 5 assists. Broderick – who entered the game off of the bench – doled out 4 assists.

FLCC guard Casey Dean dropped in 7 points while Jordan Smith and Alexis Maiorano each chipped in with 6 points apiece for the Lady Lakers.

Julia Pagano contributed a team-high 8 rebounds and was on the receiving end of a game-high 5 steals. In addition – she handed out 4 assists in the win.

Strait and McCauley – to go along with their offensive efforts – pulled down 7 rebounds apiece.

Genesee – despite falling – registered three double-digit scorers in the 40-minute meeting. Leading the Lady Cougars in the scoring department was Dashawna Jenifer. The freshman forward recorded 19 points all while grabbing a game-high 16 rebounds.

Following Jenifer offensively for Genesee were Dominique Davis and Nanase Akagami. Both listed as guards – Davis supplied the hosts with 14 points while Akagami – on the night – poured in 12 points.

The win was FLCC's third consecutive on the road. On the season, the Lady Lakers now stand at 7-5 away from Putt Moore Court. Three of their remaining four regular season games will be played at home. In its next contest – FLCC will return to its conference schedule as it is slated to take on Corning CC this Saturday (2/9) at home. Game time tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
